Good Afternoon KCMS Families,

Thank you for your continued patience and support! I understand we are experiencing very challenging times and I know the sudden change to online learning has not been the easiest transition for many of our students and families, but we are making progress. Each afternoon, our staff comes together to discuss the day's successes and challenges and we make adjustments accordingly. We ask if you’re having difficulties, of any kind, to please reach out to your child’s teachers, counselors, administrators etc. We are all here to help and we all want to work with our students and families through these difficult times, both personally and academically. We understand it takes a village to support our students so keep us in the loop with how we can support your family.

We recognize many families are figuring out their schedule at home so both parents can work and students can complete their online learning requirements. We will be making a few changes to student learning beginning tomorrow, Thursday 3/19/2020. We have asked that all teachers follow this same format so it is easy for students to navigate and for parents to support their student at home. On each Google Classroom, under the Classwork tab at the top students will now find two new topics “Remote Online Learning - Attendance” and “Remote Online Learning - Classwork.” Each day a new task will be added under these topics for each class.

Under Remote Online Learning - Attendance There will be a question for each day. Students need to simply click on this one question, select YES, and then click the green TURN IN button. This task should be completed between 7:25am-2:14pm for each class. If your student does not complete this by 2:14pm they will be marked absent for that period for that day.

Under Remote Online Learning - Classwork there will be assignments that the students need to complete to show their learning and understanding. Teachers will all be following a similar format that will include a checklist of what should be done and specific directions on when it is due and how it should be submitted. We have extended the classwork deadline for each day to 8:00pm. Teacher office hours will remain 8:00am-10:00am and 1:00pm-2:00pm.

We hope that extending the assignment deadline until 8 pm will allow students ample time to work through their assignments and receive support at home.

Again, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the Ken Caryl staff for ANYTHING! I want to reiterate that we are all here to help and support your child so they find success in the new online learning platform.

I really miss seeing all of our students and seeing families in the morning as you’re dropping off your kiddo. I look forward to the day when we can all be back together!!

Thanks for your feedback and stay healthy!
